Whisky of the week #57 Glenlivet Guardians
We have been waiting for this to arrive.
The Glenlivet Guardians Chapter. Ltd Edition. 70cl, 48.7%
The Guardians have spoken! In late 2013, Glenlivet sent out samples of three different single malts to the Guardians of Glenlivet all over the world and let them choose what would be the next release for the distillery. The winner was this limited edition exotic single malt, which features a proportion of ex-Spanish Sherry butt matured whisky. The Glenlivet Guards’ Chapter has plenty of plump raisin, dark chocolate and warming spice notes to keep the Guardians happy.
A fine new release by Glenlivet and much appreciated. As noted the higher alcohol rating makes it that much better, very smooth for almost 50%. Similar flavours to the classic range but with a little extra kick.
Tasting Notes:
Colour….Deep yellow gold.
Nose…. Complex, milk chocolate, dried fruits (plum, apricot), orange peel, sherry notes, a little bit of honey, soft oaky tones, freshly baked bread.
Taste…. Chocolate, spicy-peppery, honey, mandarin, some straight corn bourbon there, rhubarb (cooked with sugar), mashed and cooked apples with cinnamon.
Finish…. The case of barely corn (rub a drop on the back of your hand and smell it), medium long dry.
A very nice dram indeed. Complex, fruity, warm. This is made of barley, yeast and water and you can taste it. We don’t give figures but we surely can advice you: go and try it out yourself.
