Description
Rare old bottling
Rare Breed is a “barrel-proof bourbon”; meaning it is bottled directly from a variety of barrels at the proof it reaches in those barrels, with no added water to lower the proof or dilute the flavour. Jimmy Russell keeps his Rare Breed in the freezer so he doesn’t have to add ice; which would melt and ultimately dilute the flavour. First introduced in 1981, it is one of the original smaller batch bourbons. This bourbon is a unique marriage of Wild Turkey 6, 8 and 12 year-old stocks, which give the whiskey a rich, exceptional flavour.
Wild Turkey Rare Breed is a Barrel Proof Bourbon, meaning no water is added to reduce the level of alcohol during the bottling process. This method captures its rich pure Bourbon flavour. Medium to full-bodied with a nose of spring flowers balanced by a touch of black pepper and almonds.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Raspberry, with a hint of blueberry muffin too. Sawdust, citrus oil/marmalade and Jamaican Ginger Cake.
Palate: Still quite cake-y, though now it’s closer to a particularly spicy fruitcake than a ginger cake. Fresh grapes, clove and brown bread with a touch of olive oil.
Finish: Medium length with caramel and pine resin.
Together with the Wild Turkey 101 these are the two best Bourbon whiskeys ever. This Rare Breed is truly top notch!
