Don’t be vague, ask for Haig
Made by John Haig and Company, the oldest Scotch whisky distillers in the world (well, in Scotland, and by proxy the world). Haig Gold Label is made with 40% malt whisky, including Glenkinchie and Linkwood.
Smoky but with smoothness, Haig Gold Label from John Haig & Co distillers (since 1627, by the label), is a blended whisky that deserves much wider appreciation, as it is somewhat unique in the blended whisky category. Seemingly as old-fashioned as the classic brown bottle in which it is offered, the special virtue of Haig Gold Label is that it offers much of the pleasure and character of single malt whiskies, along with the easy sipping and affordability of a blend.
Moderately smoky and peaty like many single malts, with light spice notes and an increasingly pleasant after-taste, Haig Gold Label has a simplicity borne of superb blending; it is naturally full-bodied, satisfying as a true ‘real whisky’. The smoky character makes it perhaps more for experienced whisky tasters, rather than a ‘first’ whisky for someone to try, but whisky fans may find Haig Gold Label quite worth the sampling.
