Description

From Diageo’s Special Releases, this 25 Year Old Talisker was bottled in 2011. These releases are always hotly anticipated and we don’t expect it to hang about for long.

The 25 Year Old is a beautifully orchestrated variation of Talisker. There’s smoke on the nose, followed by Christmas cake fruit, and a spicy slow release of balanced flavours. The lingering finish cannot outstay its welcome. A star.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft for Talisker with clear whiffs of black pepper, seaweed and caramel. Also hints of iodine and woodsmoke.

Palate: This is medium-bodied and smooth with a subtle smoky base; the balance is perfect with hints of sweet caramel and the typical briny salinity that characterises the distillery.

Finish: Long, pleasing and very earthy with hints of ginger and chocolate.

Overall: A tasty Talisker that displays the distillery’s unique character to great effect.

In my humble opinion this is simply the best out there…sweet and smokey on the nose, with a hint of coffee and caramel. The pepper certainly comes through (perfectly balanced with the smoke) but it is additive rather than overpowering. The immediate palate is medium bodied but with a fiery pepper kick. However, this quickly recedes (5 or 6 seconds) to leave a buttery caramel and more muted pepper finish. Very smooth…absolutely lovely.
