The Yamazaki 12 year old single malt whisky is a BEAUT and it is this weeks feature whisky. The Yamazaki 12 year old single malt whisky first came into the market in 1984 and is a must try. The Yamazaki 12 year old is one of a suite of Yamazaki whiskies distributed by Suntory Whisky, and is from the oldest whisky distillery in Japan, it is also the no1 Single Malt brand in Japan. However, it is now a prized possession, particularly the aged versions! Here at The Whisky Library we only have two of these drops left.
This 12 Year Old from Yamazaki first came onto the market in 1984 and was the first seriously marketed Japanese single malt whisky.
Nose: Good body with plenty of nut oils and zest, a pleasant floral character with a little tropical fruit and a rooty note. Yamazaki go on to state Peach, Pineapple, Grapefruit, Clove, Candied Orange, Vanilla, Mizunara (Japanese Oak)
Palate: Smooth and soft with good sweetness and winter spice. A lovely citrus note develops with more tropical fruit notes and a little rum. Yamazaki go on to say Coconut, Cranberry, Butter.
Finish: Medium with fruit and zest. Yamazaki continue with this finish as Sweet ginger, cinnamon and a long finish.
Colour: Pure Gold

There aren’t words to describe this whisky; complex but smooth, classy yet down to earth, beautiful and tasty. If you call yourself a single malt whisky drinker, then you better find a bottle. I can’t say enough about this amazing dram.
So hard to find, becoming very rare indeed.
